Fire Cider FAQ's

Here are some commonly asked questions I've received about my Fire Ciders! No question is a bad question...

I've always wanted to try it but what does it taste like?

Well, we think our fire ciders taste AMAZING! Our creations are slightly sweet, slightly spicy and definitely taste like fruity vinegar. Yes, they do have a lot of crazy sounding ingredients (18-20 typically), but the end result is an energizing, harmonious, complex sipping vinegar with layers of flavors that slowly reveal themselves as your brain tries to figure out what is going on. Personally, I like to add more honey or maple syrup just before consuming which REALLY brings out the fruity combinations. Why don't we sell it that way then? A lot of people like to cook with it, take it at night, or love apple cider vinegar for its blood sugar stabilizing properties and prefer not having additional honey in it and it has a longer shelf life without extra sugars.

Does it need to be refrigerated?

NOPE! No refrigeration needed unless you prefer to keep it chilled for those early morning wellness shots. Herban Infusions' fire ciders are 100% shelf stable. We've had our products lab tested for safety and approved by the Washington State Department of Agriculture. We craft these elixirs in a state of the art, commercial kitchen with rigorous sanitation procedures, then it's safety sealed after bottling.

Does it have alcohol in it?

Totally legit question, the answer is NO it absolutely does not! We do not create nor add any alcohol to our products, sometime in the future we may consider incorporating some tinctures but if we ever do those products will be distinctly labels as having some trace alcohol in it.

Why is it called Fire Cider?

It's called that because it has hot peppers in it, and it's made with Apple Cider Vinegar. See our "It's All About the Ingredients" page for additional information. Some or our recipe's definitely have more "fire" in them that others, they are described as such in the descriptions on our products page.

What do I do with Fire Cider, what's it for, how do I take it and is it possible to take too much? Is there a correct dosage?

All great questions! Fire Cider has traditionally been used as a flu and cold remedy. It's like the chicken soup prescription but way more targeted and complex. It is really high in key vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, and the Blueberry, Nettle and Lemon version has natural antihistamines.  It's often taken to boost one's immune health or taken as a daily preventative. There is no wrong way to consume it honestly but try to use in ways that you actually like.

For instance, I like to add a bit of honey or maple syrup to a glass, maybe a tablespoon's worth, mix in about a shot of fire cider, then top it with sparkling water similar to making a shrub. I drink it just because! During the day, at night, at parties, camping, plus I taste test every batch before it's bottled. My daughter just takes a shot of it whenever she is feeling poorly but occasionally enjoys it as a shrub.

Some people add it to plain water, tea or juice. Some people like to add it to foods, like a marinade, salad dressing, bread dips, or add to soups to liven it up like borscht, veggie or cabbage soups. It's AMAZING on poultry, fish and in salsas. Anything you could do with vinegar, (like pickling!) The list is almost endless, but please don't use it for cleaning hahaha! (For our pickling friends, I do ph testing on every batch and it stays around 3.2-3.4 ph. I'm not sure what the acetic acid level is however, so do your own research if experimenting with pickling. It should be fine for "quick" or "refrigerator" pickling though)

There really isn't a "correct" dosage, let your body be your guide. For first timers maybe don't take a huge swig on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. We don't put a hero's dose of anything medicinal in these, so you don't need to worry about consuming too much. It's often recommended to not drink Fire Cider if you are stomach virus nauseous, or actually vomiting as the acids may cause additional irritation.

Is it safe to take if I'm.....

Some folks may be sensitive to some common ingredients in fire cider, or find their Dr. prefers they don't take it with certain medications or medical treatments. Please do your own research and don't rely on us to tell you if it's safe for you to consume regularly or occasionally. In some situations, it may not be fully appropriate to take if pregnant or to give to a very young child, or someone with gastrointestinal ulcers.

We here at Herban Infusions are not trained medical professionals and we are most definitely not saying fire cider is going to cure you of anything. Please take a moment to review the ingredients in our products, and if you have specific questions or concerns check with your doctor. We follow all labeling guidelines set forth by the FDA and there are no hidden or adulterated ingredients in our products.
